Arlington-based NoVa Synchro Sends 4 Athletes to National Championships in Buffalo, New York

Arlington, VA July 8 - NoVa Synchro, an Arlington-based youth synchronized swimming team, ended their 2009-2010 campaign with a flourish as they turned in several impressive swims at the ESynchro Age-Group National Championships in Tonawanda, NY. More than 1,200 athletes and 300 volunteers invaded the Town of Tonawanda Aquatic & Fitness Center for the world’s largest synchronized swimming event. The 2010 eSynchro Age Group Championships made their first splash Saturday, June 26, and ran through Saturday, July 3.

The competition featured up-and-coming junior athletes along with several reigning age group national champions. Swimmers will competed for titles in the solo, duet, trio and team events in four age groups: 11-12, 13-15, 16-17 and 18-19.

NoVa’s swimmers did what many girls dream of – they practice what was once called “water ballet” in the 12 feet deep water for hours on end – learning and perfecting manuevers with names like the “Spinning Porpoise,” the ever graceful “Crane” and the impressively powerful “Barracuda.” Then the team pieces those figures into athletic, gymnastic musical dance routines, complete with sparkly suits, makeup and glistening smiles.

“Our swimmers worked extensively this season to improve their technical skills and power and height in all body positions, and their placement and scores reflect this. All of our swimmers and coaches are excited to build on this success for the 2010-2011season," proudly stated head Coach Victoria Anderson who herself was recently made a national level judge this past spring. Anderson went on to remark that it is “truly impressive” that they placed solidly in the middle of the pack though NoVa Synchro practices only 6.5 hours a week compared clubs that ranked right along with them who use 20-30 hours a week of pool time.

NoVa Synchro Brings Home 3 Golds in First Meet of 2009-10 Season

NoVa Synchro an Arlington-based youth synchronized swimming team, began their 2009-2010 season at the 2009 Fall Figures Meet in Washington, DC on December 6. NoVa Synchro was the proud sponsor of the meet.

NoVa Synchro sent 6 athletes to the meet where they showcased the technical skills that they have developed and refined since the start of the season three months ago.

Coach Victoria Anderson commented on the meet: "With the international aquatics federation recently changing the technical figures for the first time in four years, it was especially challenging for our athletes to perfect these new skills over the course of just a couple of months. Through hard work and exceptional mental focus, they managed to achieve an impressive level of mastery of the new figures, which was evident from their scores and placements."
